BOXX MPO Concept
(multiple placement options)
An enclosure which can be placed and used in so many ways.
The thing that really got me going on this was:
There are way over 40.000 injuries reported every single year, related to bad work ergonomics in office environments world wide.
So i thought... Could a workstation be ergonomic correct?
My other thoughts behind this concept:
If i where to fabricate a workstation, it had to....
1.
Be completely out of my way.... Damnit!!!
I hate every time i turn around in my chair, i bang my upper right leg/knee into the enclosure.
Why dont you just move the chair a bit?
Then every time i need to use the dvd/ports i whould have to roll the chair to the right and then back again. "chair samba"
Call my lazy, but and i use those things quite alot :)
2.
Why not just use a desktop workstation?
I have enough "crap" taking up space on my desk allready:
two studio speakers, two 24" monitors, large wacom tablet, spacepilot, keyborad, mouse, plus the regular office items...
And if it where a "top of the line", it whould take up all the space.
3.
I want the things i use frequently, right where i need them.
4.
No enclosure at my "workingspace".
5.
Maybe somekind of way to place it, that could lower the noise.
6.
Right now i use the top of my workstation to place usbsticks, external hdd ect.
So this "feature/dropoffplace" whould also be nice to have.
7.
It whould be cool to have a shape, that can be placed and used in different ways.
8.
An enclosure design that can be used for: compact, medium and large sized workstations.
9.
Don't cost much more to fabricate the different enclosure sizes.
(Fabrication of a new tool for injections molding ect. cause of large enclosure )
10.
Should not be much more expensive to fabricate than a basic encluser/chassis.
So what i ended up with is.....
A worstation that can be placed in multiple ways:
1.
If you mount the workstation under the your desktop (see renders) it...
Provides you with the best ergonomic use/accesss possible.
Takes advantages of a (typically) unused space on your desktop.
Gives you a 100% floor clerance, so nothing in the way when cleaning.
Gives you a more silent workstation, as the desktop acts like a sound barrier.
And with optional accessories (see renders) you can have a tray or a drawer to place your phone when connected/charging via usb, an external hdd plugged in e.g. or just used as a normal "dropoffplace"/drawer.
A "hook" to hang your headset on, when not in use.
2.
if you place it on the floor as a regular workstaion (see renders) it...
Gives you easy top accesss for most used ports and the dvd.
Provides you with a drop off place (the fancover). Here you can place your purse/laptop bag e.g., rather than on a dirty floor.
Gives you the impression that it takes up a smaller space.
A "hook" to hang your headset on, when not in use.
3.
Mounted on a stand (see renders) it can be....
A free for all workstation in the office.
The main workstation in presentation meetings.
Used (if covered with panels) as a speech stand in huge conferences.
And if offered as "home" pc with normal hardware, then it could be used on public places:
Libraries, cantines, and schools e.g., and this way bring a new types of clients to the company.
4.
On the top of your desktop...
I dont like it, but you can place it there...... if you absolutly must :)
But then i whould use https://grabcad.com/library/grab-boxx-1 instead :)
This enclosure have two 120mm fans behind the fancover.
The enclosure under the desk can be as large as its needs to be, without taking up usable space.
An unique and different enclosure that stands out from other
brands.
Enclosure: bended sheet metal (no odd curves) = Cheap
The small plastic front on the desktop is also cheap to make:
If comparing to the size of the current front, there can be two of these fronts in the same size mold = money saved.
A little plus here at the end:
Ergonomic is a powerful word, when it comes to advertising/sale pitch :)
