Last year, me and my bro started a Kickstarter project called "BOXOI - 3D Zoetrope DIY Kit". The funding failed. This year, we try to reduce cost by using die-cutting parts instead of laser-cutting parts, and we simplify it by keeping only 1 play disk. (The 2 12-frammers are impossible for die-cutting anyway.)
Anyway, it would be a waste to just discard the 12-framers. We would like to share the laser cut files to makers who are interested, able to handle the EE parts themselves, and have access to a laser-cutter to make their own BOXOI. The EE parts including the motor should be easy to find online. The gear ratio of the motor that I use is 1:48.
You'll need a reflective optical sensor facing up the platform for timing, and 2 black stripes on the back of the play disk (1 stripe for the 6-frammer). You can either paint it or simply use a black PVC tape for this job. Program your strobe light to flash six times per signal, 1ms per time.

This is a later version of BOXOI laser cut file, the power switch was removed. It was programmed to start by the push button and turns off automatically after say 45 secs, For those who would like to simplify it with a power switch, a battery box that comes with a power switch can be a good alternative.
** For BOXOI2 backers, you need only Boxoi_B.svg for the 12 framers. The platform will be compatible.
