Bleeding Cone - for Quail - PG13
If you print this project, and you are happy with the final part, do not forget to buy me a roll of filament - in order for me to be able continue to test and improve these projects or to design new ones! If you are not happy with this design or you have problem with your printed parts - send me a message, we will try to fix it together! :) If you do not want or you can't afford to buy me a roll of filament ... its ok, I still hope you enjoy printing my designs! Pace!
Update 10 Dec 2020 - "Con sangerare 6" - a stronger and reinforced cone.
Using bleeding cone, protect the bird from hurting more than necessary, it is faster and everything is keep clean!
All the videos I found online - show that birds are already in to the cone - upside down - when bleeding process starts; or show someone forcing those birds in to the cone; however, since quail are small, and I do not want to stress the birds by forcing them in to the cone, I use bird behavior to ease up the process!
This is my way of bleeding the birds! I hope you find it useful!
Holding bird in hand - keep bird with the head up - cover bird with bleeding cone - bird will try to "pop" its head out of cone - use scissors - hang cone over a bucket - if you have "hook version" or hang cone in to the carousel - for carousel version.
Before, I use to keep the birds in hand - during bleeding process - this can become quite messy if do not take the time for each bird, not to mention … can be depressing.
Using bleeding cone, protect the bird from hurting more than necessary, and everything is keep clean!
Since the price for one cone - I found online - was very high - over 15 USD / unit (plastic model)… I design and print my own - 30-40 grams of filament and 5 printing hours!
I normally process like 60 - 90 birds in a session, I use 12 hook version cones - and a large bleeding bucket.
For a small farm, where is process a large number of birds, a carousel with 6, 12 or 24 cones - can be build, using the 6 cones support! This will be helpful when you can make the quail processing chain … one person bleed the birds, one person scald and pluck the birds, last one clean the entrails. Or whatever you see fit!

Sample was print using generic ABS filament. Design optimized for 0.4mm nozzle.
Use the holes to connect/build a hook (1-1.5mm wire) in order to secure the cone over a bucket/tray.
Wash and clean after use!
