Bilston Police station, West Midlands

Bilston Police Station. Built around 1840, this building was constructed for the purpose of housing prisoners and includes a moat running around the outside. It is believed to be the only moated police station in the country. I am not able to include this in the model as Google earth does not let you make moats. Bilston police station was the scene of a very serious riot on July 21st, 1919. An argument broke out in the town between two police officers and a group of drunken men. As the officers retreated back to the station the mob grew in size and further trouble erupted outside the town hall. Barricaded within the police station the mob smashed every single window and the front door was doused with petrol.
