The bedside table is a canvas velor, placed inside the stage, consisting of two fixed parts on the sides and a movable part, often adorned with decorations and paintings, arranged parallel to the main curtain. This latter portion is activated after the conclusion of each act in which a theatrical work is subdivided, in order to conceal the changes of the scene to the public. Each part of the bedside table is equipped with openings allowing entry and exit of actors from the scenic space, in addition to the usual collective exit of the company on the proscene, after the end of the show, to thank the public. The bedside table is often made of flame-retardant fabric, also for the purpose of forming a sort of partition, in the event of a fire, between the stage and the plate, in the event that a safety curtain is not planned or possible. From the fact of being the transition between the scenes and the stage, the term 'bedside table' is also used in the theatrical jargon to refer to an actor who knows the part to be recited and is ready to take the place of a colleague, Last moment, in case of forced replacement. Definition is often used in a disgusting way to define a mediocre actor. #bedside_table
