The Bakunawa AAV is the Philippine variant of a sea-going amphibious hull of the M113 armored personnel carrier. It can disembark from amphibious assault ships and swim independently towards land. It has a lower signature and more mobile because of its lower ceiling and smaller size compared to the AAV-7 of the United States Marine Corps. It is armed with a one-man turret equipped with a 12.7mm machine gun and 40mm automatic grenade launcher, the gunner is aided with a computerized sight with thermal and night vision capabilities. The vehicle is propelled by two jet water propellers located on each side of the vehicle. The armor of the vehicle can resist up to 12.7mm armor piercing rounds, crew survivability is furthered through spaced interior flooring, and suspended seats in the crew compartment that greatly reduces injuries from an explosion from under the vehicle. The vehicle can carry six fully-armed troops deployed through a drop down ramp in the back, it has a crew of three (commander, driver, gunner). #aav #amphibious #amphibious_vehicle
