Once I added a glass plate to my heated bed I lost the use of my inductive probe, which I wasn't the biggest fan of to begin with. With no z probe I became pretty good at leveling my bed manually and quickly but would always seem to have one or two spots that were just not quite perfect usually around 0.1 - 0.15 mm different from the rest of the bed. Since my printer kit came with an extra end stop I decided to try to put it to use as a removable Z-Level probe and use z correction to try and get the last little distortion out of my bed.
I designed this to easily slide on and off the heater block of an E3D V6 hotend. Once this is one the switch is positioned directly below the nozzle with a z height of around 15 mm. I did add a small bend to the switch lever to give myself a few more mm of clearance from the bed.
I'm using Repeiter Frimware with the probe mounted and bed heated, I can quickly verify my z offset and run an auto level (g32 s2) and z correction (g33 s2). Once this is complete I like to run a bed height map to check my z correction. As long as everything looks good I can slide the z-probe off and turn on my hotend and get ready to print.
Once this is done there should be no reason to run again unless a change is made to the printer that would effect the bed level.
I am seeing a consistent repeatable trigger height down to 0.01 mm with no deviation.
