!ATTENTION!_ EXPERIMENTAL_DESIGN! (Print if you dare!)
When I did some prototyping for the RG351p gamepad holder a print failed midway as for some reason the print head must have pumped into the print and went on shifted, until it was finished. As the upper part was mostly intact it was good enough to test fit the handheld. while doing so I realized that it actually was pretty handy and comfortable to hold for some reason.
In fact I liked it so much that I decided to try to come up with some sort of low profile concept for it.
After a lot of tinkering and test printing, I present you "The Knuckles" Its more compact and grips really nice! In the design process it reminded me more and more about Knuckles from sonic so I especially tried to bring that in as an design element.
Of course I printed it red, just like knuckles the echidna ;)
There are a lot of functional elements who at first glance just seem to be another design element.
The fins on the sides for example, not only do they look cool but also deliver for a better grip. As the low profile comes with one problem in relation to the two layers of control. On the lower side we have both analog sticks and one above the digital keypads.
when you use the upper layer the grip pretty much grabs into the middle of the palm of your hands which feels nice and works just like you expect. but lets say you have to use the left analog stick , then you have to lower your left hand which shifts the point of grip upwards. Now comes the job of the fins who rest in between the base of your index and middle finger so it wont slide down again.
Yeah I know I am going way to much into detail ;) Sound wise of course I was not able to apply the same sort of cavity like I did on the original holder.
Instead I made smaller spherical cavities with three claw shaped outlets which in the end helps a bit with sound enhancement.
USE rubber sponge or felt on the inner sides of the grip ( left and right) to save your RG351P from scratches and to secure it in place after sliding it in from the top.
