1960. THE FIRST JETS FOR ALITALIA. The first jets are in service: the four-engine DC-8/43 and the twin-jet Caravelle, both in service untill 1977. In 1960 Alitalia dived into a previously unseen restyling of its DC-8 aircrafts. Ignazio Gardella proposed warm-toned colours and materials like leather, dark green carpet, coffee-tinted wood walls and white ceiling, nearly creating a club atmosphere. An exhibition of paintings by contemporary artists such as Guttuso, Cagli, Santomaso, Mirko, Corpora and Marini aboard, also purchaseble by the passengers. A slogan inside the aircraft announced: “Contemporary Italian painters join Alitalia for your pleasure and relaxation”. 1960-1966. BLUE POWDER 60s-STYLE UNIFORMS. This uniform was designed by Delia Biagiotti. It was a light powder blue wool suit with 3 golden buttons, knee-length skirt and straight-cut squared jacket with typical 60s fashion 3/4 sleeve. White blouse and gloves and a fine striped hat with emblem completed the ensemble.
