The Iconic AIROH Prefab from 1945 in the UK. This was a short term solution to the Post-War Housing Crisis. It was designed and manufactured by the Aircraft Industry, using aluminium remaining from Wartime Aircraft Production. With a Design Life of 10 Years, many far surpassed that; and were very popular with occupiers. As many were constructed from Aviation Grade Aluminium, they had a greater value as 'Scrap' rather than as a home. A few examples still exist in Museums, such as Avoncroft, and St. Fagan's in South Wales. The AIROH was just as revolutionary as the Citroen DS in the model! - It provided 2B4P Accommodation, complete with a Fitted Kitchen, with a Cooker and Refrigerator; Fitted Wardrobes, and a Fitted Bathroom. Many in South Wales had a Solid Fuel 'Parkray' Fireplace, which also ducted warm air to other parts of the house. The model has been based upon what information exists, and also a lot from memory (my Grandmother live in one in Rhydfellin South Wales, until the early 1980s) I have more drawings, and other information for those who are interested. bobmirdiff@yahoo.com #1945 #AIROH #AVONCROFT_MUSEUM #HOUSE #HOUSING #POSTWAR #PREFAB #SOCIAL #SOUTH_WALES #ST_FAGANS_MUSEUM #UK
