UPDATE (8-Aug-17) Added a version of the gun-brig with crude details striped and thinned gunwales for printing at larger scales (by request).
UPDATE: (23-Apr-17) Added a Santísima Trinidad model that's a roughly hacked version of my existing HMS Victory.
UPDATE (20-Apr-17): Added open port versions of all the models based on feedback from joxash.
UPDATE (17-Apr-17): Added A brig sloop based on the pre-refit HMS Beagle. I've been having better success with paper sails than printed, and I've uploaded some templates and instruction for how I do them using 16 Ga wire masts. As Requested, I've uploaded a model of the masts/spars only if you want to use paper sails that way.
UPDATE (05-Apr-17): Added 4th rate hull based on the 50-gun HMS Leopard.
UPDATE (03-Apr-17): A couple Sloop-of-War's are still to come. I've bee playing with printing, painting, rigging and basing these. I haven't decided if I like paper sails better, or not. If there's interest, I can post the templates for paper sails too.
UPDATE (14-Mar-17): Uploaded a 2nd Rate Ship of the Line, loosely based on the HMS London. Also added sails without a mast that could be glued to your own mast, as requested. The sails, admittedly, need work. Particularly the mast diameters and their mating holes in the hulls. I'm working on it.
UPDATE (10-Mar-17): I just added a 3rd rate and a 5th rate (Frigate). I also added a new style sails that has lighter canvas and heavier masts look better and be sturdier, but it requires support to print. I had a couple turn out well and a couple not - may still need tweaking. If you want the beefier support-less sails for the new ships, you can print the original HMS Victory sails scaled at 90% for the 3rd rate and 80% for the frigate. I also added a longboat that can be glued to the deck of the SOLs above the hold, if you like.
This is the first of (what I plan to be) a series of model ships from the age of fighting sail for miniature wargaming.
I'm currently reading a bunch (too many) rules sets, but I'm most interested in/excited by:
Fighting Sail: Fleet Actions 1775–1815, My current favorite - this is just the right scale / complexity balance for me - and written by a fellow Man o' War fan!
Bloody Broadsides My leading contender for a hex-based game. Not too complex. The pre-planned movement appeals to me.
Also:Captaincy seems very deep, and complex, but fascinating.Fire As She Bears seems to be popular, and the movement octagons are cool!.Signal Close Action, Fast Play (although I don't have this one, I've just read good things)...
I'm very interested in comments/feedback/suggestions on these rule systems... or the models!
I'm working in 1:1000 scale, but I've also provided beefed up masts & sails that can be scaled down as low as 1:2400 successfully. The photo is the HMS Victory printed at 1:1000, 1:1200 (83.33%) & 1:2400 (41.66%).
To narrow my focus, I've start with the Napoleonic era, but I'll freely admit that I am in no way a historian, so you'll have to grant me some leeway.
There are a few models from this periods around, but most are not suited for gaming.
Eventually I want to model enough ships to give a good selection for gaming:
