I was inspired by the OnePlus VR goggles that someone on here made. The only problem is I have a nexus 5, so I decided to take the plunge and try to make my own VR goggles. I research on various designs, tons of google cardboard and professional gear like OSVR and Oculus.
One set of Cardboard I saw was called DAVYCI Pro. It has some great features, it was small, collapsible and allows a user to mount any phone to it. I used their design as a base. Luckily for me I found some great lenses on amazon that works quite well and were cheap.
I think the best design was the back plate, with 4 screws you can adjust any phone to the center of the viewing space. After playing with it, its kind of a pain to setup but I plan in the future to put channels for the bolts to slide in their direction plus use thumb screws.
This is a work in progress. So far it works, but there are some flaws while using the rig. When I have time I will refine and improve the design.
For anyone interested in the lenses, they're 38mm diameter and 50mm focal length. The only problem is even though they say they're 38mm when I ordered 3 (one as a spare), each one was larger. 39, 40 and gasp 41mm. So with the rig I used the 39 and 40 and just made the lens holder 40mm. So if you buy these lenses be forewarned.
