A different Smartrap by ggherbaz

Last crawled date: 3 years ago
After looking all over for the different options, I decided to purchase a smartrap kit after putting it together then I realized that even though it is a great design and fulfill it function, it have some flaws and precision its one of them, so O decided to redesign it in order to make it more robust, adaptable and more precise with the use of bearings and timing belts, Y axle is expandable and if you want to expand X you will only have to modify Mode 2 and print another Mode 5 for it's support (you can crop it or use the second stepper motor housing for a second extruder.
This is a work in progress, I'm getting the printed parts and stuff can change before it's completed.
Please, all advise and recommendations from you are welcomed.
Update:
As printed parts gets done and tested, I found that some little modifications were needed. mostly cosmetic and few extra room for bearings. So almost final parts were updated. Next week i will have all parts ready for final assembly and testing, I will upload a video in YouTube .
The Amazing people from Makercoast has printed the parts for me, their printing quality and customer service is top notch, and Suraj is a great person and very professional.
Update 05/16/14:
Printer was put together, will test it tomorrow and will report about it. I will be modifying Mode 10 and Mode 5 a little since Mode 5 tries to incline and Mode 10 is not doing it function of holding it straight. the original design was for attaching Y axis to Mode 5 straight out, and that's what i end up doing after taking the pictures. Sorry for the wire mess, it will be fixed after i get everything calibrated and working properly.
Update 08/06/2014:
Sorry for not reply on time to your questions. I just added the modifications i did to get my printer working without any issues. the main problem that i found with my printer was that Mode 5 was not heavy enough to hold the X axis and will bent sideways and Mode 10 was not holding it, once i re-design this two parts and stiffened the X axis support ( 60% infill and 3 perimeters) my printer worked just as i wanted (even though i designed it to stand alone, it will have to be bolted to a board to hold steady).
there is some odd parts that i had on hand and used to design this printer, the heatsink is a 50 mm instead of 40 the fan is a 60mm one, and the block that holds the throat was drilled to accommodate 4mm bolts. of the fan shroud, i cut some of the upper tabs, since it was hard to reach the nozzle throat some times.
Conclusions: It is a good printer, it has its limitations specially in regards to printing speed because no matter how solid the X axis support is, if you try to print too fast it will tend to vibrate, i figure out a way to fix this "not pretty" but if the axis support and the end of the x axis piece is modified to link them with a nylon cable, the vibration issue will be eliminated and the printing speed could be increased. If anyone needs the original files, please let me know and i will try to concert the to your format, the are originally made in Inventor 2014.
Thanks
