This is the first model where I have worked from proper plans. It took quite a long time. The Yamashiro was launched in 1915 and, when modernised between 1930 and 1935, acquired a distinctive 'pagoda' superstructure. By the onset of World War II she and her sister ship, 'Fuso', were already obsolete but this did not prevent them from being thrown into a suicidal attack against vastly superior American and allied forces in the Battle of Surigao Strait, one of the actions in the Battle of Leyte Gulf in the Philippines in 1944.
