for us few who prefer a mid atx over a full sized case we often have to sacrifice front cooling options for overall case size.
I came up with this design so I could once again add a additional 120mm front intake fan to my partners precision 1500 case (notorious for having zero air intake fans) , Its running a i7, 16gb of ram and a 580gtx so as you can imagine it can get pretty toasty pretty quick in there.... especially when she's obsessively building a new ride on planet coaster [rolls eyes]
I did offer to simply re-case the pc into a more airflow/water cooling capable case but she stubbornly refused [rolls eyes the other way]
aaaaaaaaaaanyway.....
this is a 3 part design, very simplistic in nature but effective in execution (if I do say so myself)
it uses the two 5.25 bays typically only available in a mid-atx case and positions the 120mm fan at a angle suitable to fit but still flow air cleanly.
results were evident when I measured ambient internal temps before and after, there was a 16°c temp drop with the new fan mod which is pretty good considering the fan I used wasnt the fastest in the world (she said she wanted a purple fan which kinda limited my options [places head in hands and sighs deeply])
incase it missed anyone's attention yes in a two bay case it means sacrificing the dvd drive but ffs who uses disks anymore anyway???, plus its a small loss for the much improved airflow inho.
