I present here a high efficiency 500-Ton Direct-Fired 2-stage ABSORPTION CHILLER / HEATER, operating with a SERIES FLOWS cycle (the most efficient, and easy to work at partial loads).
Originally developed by the Japanese SANYO (today bought by PANASONIC), with successive improvements from GOLDSTAR HEAVY MACHINERY (today "LG") of Korea and the original designers, today reachs up to an efficiency of COP = 1.51.
This type of chiller surpasses in end-to-end energy benefits (from the supply of natural gas, to the refrigeration load) to any electric chiller, even the most advanced with centrifugal compressors and magnetic bearings, even those with falling-film evaporator.
Using NATURAL GAS, you do not need electricity generation (Power Plant), nor the transmission and distribution of electricity, such other as electrical protections for any electrical appliance.
Its electricity consumption is less than 5% of an electric chiller of equivalent capacity (composed of the operation of the variable absorbent solution pump, the refrigerant (distilled water) pump, the motor of the natural gas burner, and the control systems and operation).
You can -obviously- install a LIQUID FUEL BURNER, or a DUAL BURNER (OIL or GAS). The burner can be adapted to the fuel that each customer has.
It includes the advantage of also providing hot water for heating (in winter), either ALTERNATIVE or SIMULTANEOUSLY with chilled-water (the model shown is an option to chilled water or hot water delivery NO SIMULTANEOUS).
The burner position in the high-temperature generator can be installed at either end (there are models from the same manufacturer in the opposite position, although the operation is similar).
I hope this design would be useful for everyone.
