500 Group Dash Concept

BACKGROUND
Although the 3D aspect of this design was an important feature, my main objective was to create a concept where all the vital data is immediately obvious and simplicity is key. The eye shouldn't be drawn by unnecessary distractions.

REV-COUNTER
The rev-counter is the most prominent part of the design, so needs to be striking, clear and easy to look at. As the revs increase, the bars light up, then fade out as a point is past. The use of shadows here should give the appearance of raising steps: a Mexican wave effect. As the RPM passes each 1000, that number will light up, and remain lit until the next 1000 is hit. This ensures direct reading.

BOOST
Each ring of the boost dial represents 5psi, while the outside shows 1psi per block (e.g. 3 rings and 2 blocks = 17psi). The inner most 2 rings light up red to indicate the high pressure. When a vacuum is created, the shown number changes from + to -, and the colours displayed are reversed (i.e. blue round the outside, and green inside rings).

G FORCE
The G force gauge uses a tunnel effect to display the direction in which you're travelling. A straight tunnel will illustrate acceleration/deceleration in a straight line while one veering to the left (as shown in the image) will show the Gs of a left turn, and right accordingly. The outer ring shows the direction of force.
