And now for something completely different...
Lacking the funds for a multi-material upgrade 2.0 and several rolls of different colored filament, I came up with a slightly more primitive solution for making a 3D printed version of a lapel pin design I did. Basically, print it, sand it, drip paint into the wells, let it dry, and sand again. Walls are .8mm thick, so I recommend only printing with a .4mm nozzle at this scale.
About the source artwork:
Dante Gabriel Rossetti was an artists closely associated with the Pre-Raphaelite movement, a scandal-ridden group of 19th century English painters attempting to re-create a more authentic artistic tradition (which they viewed as having gone downhill ever since Mannerism) Proserpine (Persephone) is a portrait of Jane Morris as the figure from Greek mythology (side note: that was one messed up legend completely devoid of any cheerful qualities}. The depiction of Mrs. Morris (wife of William Morris, prominent member of the Arts and Crafts Movement) as Persephone allegedly hints at the relationship between her, the artist, and her husband. This version of the work hangs in the Tate Britain Gallery in London where I sketched it many years ago, said sketch becoming the base that I 3D-ified here.
