30G Breeder Reef System

We have two of these systems running, and have burned up three Pondmaster Hydrive 4000gph pumps so far (on two systems within a year) and have replaced both Hydrives with SICCE 4200gph submersible pumps on 8/6/12 and 10/2012 we hope they last....3/15/13 both SICCE 4200gph pumps are down with the impellers separating from the ceramic shaft for the 5th time, great pumps but waiting for the manufacturer to fix the defect. Replaced both temporarily with SICCE 1351gph pumps, a great deal less flow, but the fish don't seem to care....Hope this helps anyone building a system from scratch. DESCRIPTION: 30B (36'x18'x13'H) Set up for a 4200gph submersible sump pump with 1.5' output to 3' then necked back down to 2' for each row of tanks, larger than 1.5' for the purpose of minimizing friction from pipe and fittings and finally down to 3/8'D to speed up the flow in the tanks.
