2010 Orion V 'Next Generation' Hybrid Bus-Suburban Model (never built)

In 2009, Daimler Buses discontinued their flagship American model, the Orion V, selling some of the last models to Bee-Line and TransLink. As a tribute to this model, I have created a hypothetical 2010 Orion V hybrid suburban model. This model measures 45’ 6” by 108”, and has a very similar front to the original Orion V (with different headlights). The back is also very similar to the 2008 Orion V (only the taillights are modeled on a 1997-98 CNG version) and the sides sport frameless windows. The roof has two distinct humps on it, the first being for the battery assembly and the second containing some of the powertrain wiring. The interior is largely modeled on the Bee-Line Orion V suburbans, with slight differences (luggage racks have wood trim), but largely the same. There are 60 high-backed suburban seats (mostly in transverse pairs) with two fold-up sets of seats for ADA compliance, plush interior walls, and a 21” raised floor common to all high floor models. Attached to the luggage racks above each seat except the front longitudinal ones are a pair of reading lights and a control panel to turn on one or both lights and to signal for stop. A pull cord is also included. The driver’s compartment is fully detailed and is a hybrid of the Orion V and Orion VII NG compartments. The bus is in full MTA livery and assigned a currently vacant number. Enjoy!
