The XC8 was first introduced in 1978 and is still in production today with the same body, chassis and rear suspension. The RWD model's double wishbone independant front suspension was a major advance for large pickup trucks, and even the live axle/coil springs front end on the 4WD was better than the competition. The two different front suspension set-ups were achieved using a front sub frame for the IFS that attached to the ladder frame chassis. The 4 trailing link live axle on this 4WD model was mounted directly to the chassis. There was a choice of 4.0l petrol or 4.2 (non turbo) diesel inline 6s or a 5.9l V8. The standard gearbox was a 4 speed manual. The diesel engine in this 1978 example produces 106hp@3500rpm and 251Nm@2000rpm. There was also 4 wheel disc brakes. It had standard vinyl seats and an AM radio (FM optional). The 4.2D 4X4 was the most popular model in 1978. I haven't done the interior yet, this model has been uploaded to show the differences in front suspension design between the original 4WD compared to the new 4WD or the RWD which was discontinued in 1996.
