Recently I was digitizing some old 16mm movies. Some of them date back to 1959 and have splices that are failing. I needed to make new splices that would feed through my $25 craigslist projector -- where are you going to get a 16mm film editing system today, without paying a fortune? Right! I made my own. Overlap both ends on this guide (press down onto teeth to ensure alignment) and slice with a razor blade. Then use "Hollywood Approved" tape (read "generic office tape") to join the ends, making sure not to cover any sprocket holes. So far, so good.
BTW, I printed mine in glow-in-the-dark PLA. That's just what I had in the printer -- but aren't you jealous? :-)
