I got tired of using calipers to measure tire sizes when sorting some loose slot car tires, so I came up with these simple tools. They aren't pretty, but I find them super handy. I use them with my 1/32 scale slot cars.
TireGauge: Can be used for checking tire outer diameter from 10mm to 30mm and width from 5mm to 17mm, all in 1mm steps. All parts are sized with tolerances in-mind for successful prints on my printer, but should be close enough for all (on a well calibrated machine. You'll have to write the numbers on the gauge - they are not indicated on the print itself (like I said - simple). If you position the gauge with the angled section at the bottom right, sizes are (left to right):
Top Row: 30mm - 26mm
Middle Row: 24mm -18mm
Bottom Row: 17mm - 10mm
Width "teeth" (bottom and lower right): 17mm-9mm, then 8mm-5mm moving counter-clockwise.
WheelDiaGauge: Can be used to approximate size of wheel that tire can fit on. My rule was to slide it down the gauge until it was no longer a loose fit - and would not move to the next size without decent force. It measures from 12mm to 18mm in 1mm steps.
RibWidthGauge: can be used to measure the width of the rib cavity inside many slot car tires (and on many wheels for Fly, Carrera, Scalextric and other brands). Basically, I slid it thru the center of the tire, and checked each "tooth" to see if they would (a) fit and (b) moved back and forth thru the tire. If it fit and wouldn't move, then that's the approximate width of the rib. It has teeth from 1mm to 9mm (again stepping at 1mm), and two tiny teeth near the handle end - I can use to estimate if a rib is 1mm deep or 1.5mm deep (the rest of the teeth are 2mm deep).
Like I said, their not pretty, but they work for me. Enjoy!
