My Uncle made a large dust collector for his shop but he kept having problems with the fan assembly he made out of wood. He said he had balance issues and his fan assemblies would not last long. I figured I would take on the challenge of trying to make a fan assembly that would be well balanced and suite his purpose.
I first made the whole fan assembly in one .stl file. 13" was way too large for my print bed but I thought maybe I could use one of those online printing services. Nope, they wanted about $2K for it. So, I redesigned it to be printed in smaller pieces and then glued together. All the pieces will fit on a 230 x 150 x 150 mm build platform. I did include the original full fan if someone has a huge build plate and ton of time to print it.
The fan is designed to be mounted on a 5/8ths shaft. There are two different versions of the center shaft that holds the blades, one with 8 blades and one with 16 blades. I printed the 8 blade version mainly because the blades take about 3 hours and some change to print. The whole thing took me about 48 hours to print. After printing do a dry fit of all the pieces to ensure they fit well, the blades fit very tightly into the center shaft, and then glue them all together.
I don't know how useful this would be to anyone else but I thought I would share it with the community just for fun. Enjoy!
