1 inch x 8 threads per inch (TPI) chuck adapter faceplates and thread protector.
I designed these chuck accessories in Fusion 360 to fit an inexpensive chuck to my Jet JWL-1015 wood lathe. The recess fits commodity 80mm chucks; such as the inexpensive K11-80.
The design was inspired from a thread nut design from BMCC and his Atlas/Craftsman 618 1"-8TPI Thread Protector by BMCC (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3078611). Later, I made my own threading part and replaced BMCC's.
Included are three files:
1.) 1 in x 8 TPI 3 Hole Faceplate v2.stl - Provides a faceplate for mounting an 80mm chuck that has 3 mounting holes and has a recess for perfectly fitting an 80mm chuck.
2.) 1 in x 8 TPI Faceplate Blank v2.stl - Provides a blank faceplate with no mounting holes. It is also not recessed.
3.) 1 in x 8 TPI Thread Protector v1.stl - Provides a 1" x 8 TPI thread protector.
I've printed the 3 mounting hole version with eSun PLA+ and it fits spot on. The best results that I've had so far are to print with the faceplate up (i.e., chuck side up), resulting in a very smooth face part. You'll use your clean up time on the back side.
The part is not really intended to be used as the defacto part to run on a lathe in its plastic state. I cast aluminum, copper, and brass and am making this part as an investment cast.
Please leave feedback on the part if you like it or have any deficiencies to report.
Changelog:
1/4/2020 - Reworked the whole design to incorporate my own thread adapter. I was concerned that the original adapter was not perfectly centered in Fusion 360 because when I would import BMCC's adapter STL it would only import as a meshbody and it was very difficult to get the dimensions to snap to the center pivot.
1/2/2020 - Original upload with borrowed thread adapter from BMCC.
