Wizards & Demons
This is my take on Kaooa (also called Vultures & Crows), which is a traditional strategy game from India. A surprisingly complex strategy game with very simple rules (one that I have yet to beat my 11 year old son at).Wikipedia Kaooa
The main objectives to win:
The demons must surround the wizard and block him from moving or jumping.
The wizard must capture four or more demons. A wizard captures a single demon by jumping over it in a straight line (not around corners).
How to move:
Demons may move from one spot to any adjacent vacant spot following the lines of the board. Only one move is allowed per turn. Demons cannot jump. Demons cannot move until all demons have been placed on the board.
The Wizard may move to any adjacent vacant spot following the lines of the board. The wizard can jump a demon to capture it, removing it from play. Jumps can only be made in a straight line (not around corners). Only one jump per turn (no multi-jumps like in checkers).
To start:
A demon piece is placed in any spot on the board.
The wizard piece is placed in any open spot.
The second demon piece is placed in any open spot.
At this point the wizard can begin to move one space at a time following the lines of the star board. This includes jumping over a single demon piece (to capture it) and landing on the adjacent open space behind it (in a straight line).
The third demon piece is placed in any open spot.
This back and forth continues until all seven demons have been placed on the board. Demons cannot be moved until they have all been placed. On the demons next turn following the placement of the last one, a single demon can be moved one space per turn.
And that's it. With only 10 spaces on the star shaped board and a total of 8 pieces, it gets crowded real quick.
To play you will need to print:
1 x star board
7 x demon pieces
1 x wizard piece
A piece holder is also included with snap-tight lid due to the fact that the demon pieces hurt when you step on them.
