This is a model of a wire dipole antenna ceramic egg insulator that is used at the both ends of the wire dipole. These ceramic insulators are typically used for High Frequency (HF) wire antennas since full wavelengths for HF antennas start at 10 meters (30 MHz) and go up to 200 meters for (1.5 MHz) into the AM broadcasting band (0.54 MHz ~ 1.7 MHz).

Wire dipole antennas are the simplest and most cost effective antennas there are and can be made within an hour. Tuning is typically oversizing the antenna dipole elements (lower frequency) and then trimming the ends to bring up the frequency to the desired center frequency, which is usually the center of the receiving and transmitting band.

For more information on wire dipoles please refer to the "ARRL Antenna Book for Radio Communications", "Antenna Physics" also from the ARRL, or the ARRL's "Even More Wire Antenna Classics - Volume 3"; all of which are excellent references for learning and building wire High Frequency (HF) antennas.
