Windmill ‘De Kat” (The Cat) was originally given the name ‘Our Delight’ (Ons Genoegen) when it was build in 1842 in the town of Alblasserdam, approx 72 km south of its current location at the edge of the village of Uitgeest. It was build on a shipyard, working as a sawmill until it was decommissioned in 1952. It was disassembled and stored by the city of Haarlem. However, the plans to reassemble were never realized there. When the original ‘De Kat’ in Uitgeest burned to the ground on September 7th 1971, plans were made to reassemble the mill as a polder mill (pumping water) in Uitgeest. The wind mill went back in operation in 1973 and can be seen to turn on a regular basis. -wingspan is 25.44 meter. -video (8 minutes, made in 1987): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5al9lLmVO8 Uitgeest, The Netherlands, 52°32'0' North 4°42'54' East #windmill_poldermill
