At Sioux Falls, SD oldest cemetery is this grave marker to William B. Dick, a Civil War Veteran. I only knew at first that he was a veteran due to the G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic) iron flag holder standing in front of it. The inscription is visible, but difficult to read. It faces due west where the harshest winds blow in from the prairies further outside of town.
I took almost 40 photographs with my new Nikon D3100. It was set to RAW, in Aperture Mode. I set the ISO to 100. The photos turned out well, with minimal need for intervention. What I did was improve the clarity slightly, I sharpened the images slightly as well. I did all of this in Adobe Lightroom. I finally exported the photos as 16-bit TIFs.
I imported the TIFs into Agisoft Photoscan and used the 'ultra' settings to recreate Mr. Dick's monument.
Afterwards I ran the resulting OBJ file through Meshmixer to close up holes and trim off the uneven bottom of the model as it was standing at a slight tilt with grass around it. Afterwards I imported the cleaned up OBJ file into Meshlab where I exported it as a STL and PLY files to share here. The OBJ file was too big to share here and no matter what I tried to do for decimate the mesh to shrink the file, it ended up coming out so lacking in detail that I didn't want to post it.
