Hello Friends!

2-1-2021: Added GIF Animation. Valve timing and ignition breaker correctly set.

My latest project. Modeled in SolidWorks 2020, Imported to Cinema 4D R23, Rendered with Redshift 3.0.35.

I've posted my latest project, a model of a Whippet 10cc RC Marine engine circa 1963. This engine runs on gasoline and thus uses a spark plug for ignition instead of a glow plug.

This engine is quite small. To give you an idea of scale: Engine Height = 4.3 inches or 11.1 cm tall. Spark plug = 1.02 inches tall or 2.6 cm

But, even at this small size it still has full water cooling jackets for the cylinder and head.

I stayed fairly true to the original drawings only straying for errors, omissions or of course a few performance enhancements.

I replaced the crankshaft, camshaft and connecting rod bushings with needle bearings, added roller bearings to the lifters, velocity stack to the carburetor, etc.

All threads are modeled to proper specs, internal, external, fasteners & fittings. Of course, this also means all threads have to be clocked properly during assembly.

The SolidWorks model has all mechanical mates so you can turn the crankshaft and see the ignition points, timing gears and valve train all operate correctly.

I’ve uploaded:

1. The original plans from 1963.

2. My original SolidWorks 2020 part and assembly files.

3. IGES, STEP, STL & Parasolid. If I’m missing a format you would like just ask and I will try to oblige.

4. Sixteen 4k renders at 3840 x 2160. The renders look best if you download the "4k 3840x2160 Renders.zip" file.

Model Stats:
Total Parts: 162
Unique Parts: 96
Number of bodies: 370
Number of Gears: 3
Total Assemblies: 12
Total Mates: 371
Polygons to Render: 30,441,418

Thanks for having a look, ~ Dave
