This is a colored pencil holder designed to hold a standard 12 pencil set. The hole in the bottom is 5mm deep & 40mm wide this is to put a weight or a few coins into to weigh the base down. My design will help other students since the cardboard box that color pencils come in are notoriously fragile and tend to break after a week or two leaving you with pencils floating around your backpack. I used a previous version I designed for the entire 2019-2020 school year (up until school got cancelled).
This is the second version since I lost the files to v1 which I printed a year ago. V1 had a few issues where the support placement would rub against the entire length of a pencil making it very difficult to pull out. A second issue I found was that pencils in the middle would be near impossible to pull out if the outside pencils where not removed first, to remedy this the middle 4 pencils are raised above the outside pencils to make them easier to grab.
If I were to redesign this I would make the pencils face downwards to avoid the tips being broken off when kept in a backpack.
3D printing reduces the environmental impact of manufacturing a small plastic part such as this since no expensive injection molding equipment is necessary.
There are 3 files in the design two of them are purely aesthetic and the base design is incase somone wants to remix them.
