I like to set my heat gun on it's heel so I can use it without having to hold it. This way I can use both hands to angle and turn the parts being heated. This is how I heat hardpipe for custom bent water cooling and it works nice for those heat-shrink solderless butt connectors too. Now I need a foot switch (or a motion detector)...
It won't stop you from catching the cord with your foot, dragging it off the table, and melting a clump of polyolefin carpet fibers together. BUT! it will make it a lot more difficult to fall over.
I printed in TPU but I would think PLA would do just fine.
