Some early design for yet another spaceship / starship that's come to mind. Design wise I wanted to have something that had a bit of aesthetic appeal (the top section with an almost nautical aesthetic) but also a heavier almost brutish or clumsy look (the lower half with a wide slab and little to no grace). The result is that it almost look like two craft, one in which people live and work and the other which services and allows everything to function. I'm really not happy with the back, more specifically how he back looks like it's tacked on to finish off a square section. If I ever return to this, that shall be the first thing to be amended -- -- A ship designed for long voyages of exploration, embarking on a series missions (lasting ten years) to venture as far out into the unknown before returning. The object to find new worlds to colonise and signs of life in this galaxy other than ourselves. One ship would head to the centre of our galaxy, the other would venture amongst the stars; both taking five years to learn as much as they can and then return for refit and the assignment of a new crew to push further into the unknown. Because of their isolated missions, these ships would become as much a home as they would a ship. Crew would also be expected to be able to perform various roles onboard in case of injuries or fatalities. The dorsal section of the ship is topped by the crew quarters, housing 200, the mess hall to the starboard section and the bridge to the port section. The bridge, would normally have minimal staff, during normal flight, to navigate and assess upcoming locations. Beneath the residential sections, the primary hull contains sensors and stellar cartography equipment to the bow. The rest of this hull has science and research laboratories to, for analysis of collected materials, writhing the port hull and recreation facilities within the starboard hull. The primary hulls are bridged by hangar bays 1 and 2, holding shuttle craft for landing on a planet as well as smaller recon ships for investigating smaller areas inn more detail. The recon ships may also be repurposed for maintenance of the exterior. This section also houses the deflector arrays and sub space communications. Beneath, the secondary hull is home to the matter/anti-matter warp engine and a secondary engine. While the ship would normally alternate between the two for maintenance, if one were to fail orders are to turn around at the earliest opportunity and return home. Engines are also accessed by hatches on the ventral side: allowing for easy replacement during the refit stage between ten year journeys and allowing the ship to travel faster/further next time. Also within the secondary hull is hangar bay 3, holding maintenance vehicles for checking and repairing the external sections of the ship. The hull primarily holds matter/anti-matter and holds replacement components in stores. To the rear of this section, a small hangar bay 4 holds a series of subs pace beacons for deploying and staying in contact with home (important for updating on discoveries and working on upgrades). The ship has an over abundance of ARC reactors to power the primary systems, more than enough in case some reactors are damaged or fail. The ARC thrusters allow from primary movement. Though they each have a series of retro thrusters for finer movements. Large phaser cannons and smaller laser turrets provide some amount (but not much) defence, but are primarily used for mining and removing obstacles. Should the ship be under attack, the large warp coils in the nacelles allow sufficient speed to out run. This speed also allows for the ship to travel as far as possible. Again, by having more than required, the ship is able to continue flight if one is damaged. To the rear of the primary hull, hydroponics serves as a source of vegetables to be served alongside protein rations. It also acts as a garden for crew. Either side of the rear section, the port tank receives and recycles what water can be recovered and eventually relocates it into the starboard water tank. Any black water or water that can not be purified joins the waste in recycling plant: here organic waste can be made into organic matter for the hydroponics bay and science labs and other materials can be made for equipment and clothing. An air recycling plant maintains an Earth-like atmosphere. Note that this section is in direct contact with all other sections of the ship. Finally, to the rear, is the only access to the ship by airlock. This section of the ship also holds the primary store and even holds fresh meats in preserved state for special dinners and occasions. The first ship of the class, the Traveller, would have been the prototype sent to explore the quieter regions of known space and test the systems as well as the longevity of the ship. While Explorer and Voyager were embarked on the mission, Traveller and a newer sister ship (Odyssey) would be prepped to take over. This format means that humans have a continual presence in the galaxy and increase our learning of what is out there #arc #exploration #fi #lasers #phasers #sci #Science_fiction #space #spaceship #starship #warp
