This is a vortex generator (VG) i designed for the Reptile S800 Sky Shadow FPV RC flying wing. Although they can be used on any RC plane.
.
DON'T BE SPECIAL AND USE THEM ON A REAL PLANE!!!
.
.
.
There are 2 types. 1 that can be double sided sticky taped on to the wing, temporarily to test the vortex generators and a 2nd which can be inserted into a small slit you make in the wing and glued in place once you are happy with it position and functionality.
.
.
The plane fly's amazingly! But, as it's quite heavy and has the glide ratio of a brick when you cut the throttle to land especially when its fully loaded with a 2200mah lipo, GoPro (Sj4000 or Andoer 4K Action Cam are just as good) and all the other bits, i thought it could do with a bit of help landing a bit slower. So theres no simpler way than a VG.
.
I have tested these and stall speed has been decreased dramatically! Control at low speed and high alpha are also significantly improved. This makes for a much slower and controlled landing.
.
.
.
.
If you don't know what a VG is, in short, it delays local flow separation. Decreasing stall speed and increasing low speed control.
.
Here is a good video that explains them very well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Whd_KnsLKE
.
To set them up correctly, they need to be at 15 degrees relative to the direction of the aircraft flight direction, NOT the wing! The S800 Reptile has a 30 Degree wing sweep. I recommend spacing 6 VG's out over each wing at 60mm apart and 20mm back from the leading edge. Please see photos for a visual aid.
.
This is just a guide. Feel free to experiment however you like.
.
If you print some out, please upload a photo as id love to see it!
.
.
Print at 0.1mm layer height and 100% infill

Warhog has designed some genius little tools to help place your vortex generators at the correct distance and angle on the Skyshadow S800. You can download his awesome design here https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2544706
