UTN 'Beverston' Gloucestershire class Light Cruiser

The 'Gloucestershire' class is a very recent addition to the UTN fleet, making it also one of the most advanced capitol ships in service at the moment. Entering service in 2375, the 'Gloucestershire' class was the result of a commision by the UTN High Command to fullfill the role of a Light Cruiser able to work in conjunction with a compliment of destroyers to form a fast and hard hitting cruiser strike force. With a somewhat odd design where the majority of the ship's firepower is concentrated around the 'top', the 'Gloucestershire' class is still a formidable ship, equipped with some of the most advanced targeting computer equipment to date. With firepower that almost equals the 'Sledgehammer' class heavy cruiser, essentialy this ship's 'bigger brother', the 'Gloucestershire's speed relative to its size is impressive to say the least. Fast, powerful and technologicaly superior, many commanders have remarked that they feel much more re-assured with a 'Gloucestershire' in the vicinity. However, at this point there are only 42 'Gloucestershire's in service, but this number is set to rise in comming years, with the UTN commisioning 50 more of these beasts.
