USS Boston

This is my rendition of a ship similar to the USS Boston. Being the fifth ship in naval history to bear the name, the protected cruiser Boston was built by the John Roach & Sons Co. and was comissioned on and off between May 2, 1887 and 1946. In 1889, she joined the 'Squadron of Evolution' and in 1893, landed a party of marines in Honolulu which would eventually lead to the overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawaii. In 1898, the Boston participated in the Spanish-American War in which she served during the Battle of Manila. In 1905, she represented the Navy at the Lewis and Clark Exposition and helped care for victims of the San Francisco Earthquake in 1906. In 1916, she was recomissioned as a training ship for the Oregon Naval Militia. From 1917 to 1918, she was converted into a freighter her armaments were removed.
