US Army M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank in Cold Weather Camouflage. The M1 Abrams is a third-generation main battle tank in service with the US Army which replaced the M60 Patton series of battle tanks. Designed by Chrysler Defense (now General Dynamics Land Systems), it was meant to counter the the T-72 and T-80 line of main battle tanks produced by the Soviet Union during the Cold War. It was named after US General Creighton Abrams, commander of US Forces during the Vietnam War. Deviating from the standard form of previous battle tanks, the latter is equipped with improved armor, digital systems, optics and firing capabilities. From a free 3d resource.
