UGUNUGU ELBOW (BETA)
"Ügünügü" means elbow in garifuna language, which is the language spoken by the Garifunas, a group of indigenous of mixed-race descendants of West African, Central African, Island Carib, European, and Arawak people. This indigenous group lives in Honduras, where GUALA (https://www.facebook.com/gualahn/?ref=br_rs) is located.
This project is the product of several international collaborations between the E-NABLE community, specially from GUALA and RENABLE (https://www.facebook.com/RochesterEnableLab/?ref=br_r) , both official E-NABLE chapters.
The Ugunugu Elbow is a new open source elbow design (Initially inspired in the Po Elbow, https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2848297) for 3D printing containing the following features:
=> 4 lockable positions ( ~107.5°)
=> Normally locked by the restoring force of a spring. (Diameter ~10mm, free length ~25mm and winding ~ 50)
=> Fully 3D printable (Excluding the spring and bolts; future design may replace these with 3D printed alternatives)
=> Compatible with the Adjustowrap Gripper Arm System (http://e-nable.org/2018/05/31/adjustowrap-gripper-arm-system-spring-2018/)
Currently this is a BETA design and much of the testing with scaling and other factors are being tested as we publish these first source files, hoping that other will get interested in this project and help speed up its development.
