Practicing with "Vase Mode" printing. (These must be printed in Vase Mode.)Short video of my results
Youtuber Clockspring 3D has a nice video on Youtube about vase mode printing and how to create this Twisted Box yourself. His video is called "Vase Mode Twist Box Tutorial - 3D Printing".
This model is my take on his 3D Printed Vase Mode Twist Box. Instead of Finger holes, I opted to have flanged ends. While 45º is the maximum angle you'd want to attempt in Vase Mode.... I found that when using my 0.8 nozzle, I would still have some failures on the 45º surfaces. So I decreased those angles to 40º on these models. I also tried printing with my 0.8 nozzle at a layer height of 0.3... but again, this caused failures. It seems 0.2 layer height is the perfect layer height for Vase Mode. But, you can significantly decrease your print time, and significantly increase your box strength by printing with a 0.8 nozzle.
Obviously the walls are thicker with a 0.8 nozzle, so I had to create 2 separate lids, one for 0.4 nozzle, and one for 0.8 nozzle. In Vase Mode, you have to consider your nozzle diameter or the lid will not slide on smoothly. The bottom half of the box can be printed with a 0.4 or 0.8 nozzle, since nozzle size only affects the inner diameter of your Vase Mode print.
