Sometimes there's need for firm grip on tube or axle and using pliers or pipe/bench vise would make unwanted marks on the surface.
This simple tool helps in this kind of situation a lot. I have used aluminum blocks of this kind but they're much harder to make.
Two M3 20mm countersunk flat head screws are used as locating pins
Ream the mating pin holes with ø3mm drill bit if needed.
UPDATE: I made another jaws for 12-15-16-18-20mm tubes. Increased depth requires M3 25mm screws as locating pins.
There's dimensional drawings to help making customized versions. I'm not familiar with OpenSCAD programming.
