Dissection is an fascinating theme of mathematics, not only in geometry but also in algebra. Given an equilateral triangle, we could dissect it in many interesting ways and reassemble the pieces into other shapes. Here we have two dissections that allow an equilateral triangle to be transformed into two regular hexagons. Each dissection has six pieces. Symmetry plays an important role here. This type of activities are appropriate for K-8 mathematics, providing engaging experiences for students to have first-hand experience with design and mathematics.
The pieces are 4mm in thickness; the triangular side length is 50mm and 80mm, respectively. Please observe ALL safety procedures when using small pieces with young students.
