Treasure Quest
Treasure Quest is a game of solving clues and traveling to destinations guided by a treasure chest that supplies the clues and the destinations. Treasure Quest has a number of improvements over the traditional reverse geocache. The Treasure Quest includes multiple waypoints and textual clues to lead the geocacher to the waypoints and the final destination. The quest chest only opens at the final destination. These enhancements make the game more fun and allow the activity to last longer than a single destination with only distance information. Memorable waypoints can be used with interesting clues that lead to the waypoints and final destination.
Features of the Treasure Quest
• Multiple destinations or waypoints including the last final destination
• The Treasure Quest presents interesting clues that must be solved. Clues are displayed on a large graphic display
• Sound cues
• Sleep feature to preserve the battery
• Micro SD card which contains the quest clues, waypoints, and other text to be displayed. You can create your own quest! Note: You can only access the Micro SD card if you solve the original quest because it’s inside the box.
• All electronics is mounted on a plastic carrier so it is easy for users to install in their own antique, vintage, or custom box. Only one opening must be made to install the carrier including the display.
• Treasure Quest runs on six AA batteries which are easily replaced. Rechargeable batteries can also be used.
How to Start Your Quest and Continue It
Assuming you received a Treasure Quest from a friend and did not build your own,
Here’s what you should do:
• Figure it out!!!
Why are you reading this? You should be able to figure out what to do with a mysterious chest that someone has given you. Don’t read any further. Have fun!
……Why are you looking here??
• If you are reading this sentence and you have not completed the quest, I’m a little disappointed. The further you read the less fun you will have figuring out the quest.
• OK, here are some clues. The first clue is that there is a small tab on the top of the chest ornamentation that will allow you to remove the display cover.
• To turn on the quest box, press and hold the button below the display for 4 seconds.
• A message will display stating “Treasure Quest” and that the quest box is searching for GPS satellites. You may have to take the quest chest outside for it to get a GPS lock on the required 4 satellites.
• Once the satellite lock is achieved, the quest box will display a clue to the first waypoint/destination, the current latitude and longitude, and the distance to the next waypoint or final destination.
• Figure out what the clue means and go there. If you can’t figure out the clue, start moving in the direction that reduces the distance displayed. Distance is displayed in meters for less than 10,000 meters and in kilometers for over 10,000 meters.
• The box goes to sleep every 6 minutes to conserve battery power. It will make a tone sound and display a “Going to Sleep, Bye Bye…” message. To continue, just hold the button down for 4 seconds after which the last clue, current latitude and longitude, and distance will be displayed.
• The quest chest will move to the next clue and destination after you complete the current clue.
• When you arrive at the final destination, the box will open and you can retrieve your treasure!
