Transnistria national flag (proposal)

In 2009 the Parliament of Transnistria discussed a proposal to replace the civil flag (red-green-red) with a new flag, having three horizontal stripes of white, blue and red color, being almost identical to the cloth of the Russian Federation, but with different proportions (1: 2, against the 2: 3 of the Russian cloth). The main reason for the second flag indicates Transnistria's desire for closer ties with Russia, a guarantor of Transnistria's independence from Moldova. In a 2006 referendum, 97.2% of Transnistrians voted in favor of greater association with Russia. The new flag would be used in conjunction with the current state flag. On April 12, 2017, the Transnistrian Supreme Council approved a motion that made the new flag the second official flag of Transnistria. #flag #Transnistria
