NOT FOR COMMERCIAL USE
I am into the R/C hobby for 25Y and I have flow anything from sailplanes to 3D helicopters and since 3Y I am addicted to FPV flying. As I moved to the digital DJI FPV system I was looking for new frames that are light, agile and built around the Caddx Vista.
I decided to cut my own frame for the first time and I began to draw a 3" freestyle frame in Fusion360. In the middle of it I have seen videos of the great flying TorqueFPV Hornet HD. Inspired by this frame - not available in Europe at the moment - I finalized the design of my backyard rocket ;-)
GOALS of the project:
3inch "Toothpick" design with rather thin arms
built around the Caddx Vista
ability to use 2.4GHz receivers with 2 antennas
high durability and stiffness for its size/low weight
use of an FC/ESC AIO board
motors in 1404 size with at least 4,500kV, 9mm diameter mounting M2
frame has to protect the motors from front, back and side impacts
full protection of the Vista HD camera in the TPU housing w/o having it in view
weight of around 190 gramms
and lots of power with a 4s battery 450mAh
Well the result is the Tough_Enough 3" HD frame in its version 1.0
PARTS needed to be cut and 3D printed:
Bottom_Plate: 3mm Carbon 3k (UD layers in between), Arms have to be in line with UD layers!
Top_Plate: 1.5mm Carbon 3k
Cameraholder, Antennaholder, Elastic Band are printed in TPU (I used SainSmart TPU transparent violet) - Antennaholder and Camerholder need supports
Everything else you need to complete the frame:
4 standoffs aluminium M2 ,height 22mm, outer diameter 3.5mm (I used those from iFlight)
A lot of M2 Buttonhead screws:
8x M2x6mm for the frame to the standoffs
4x M2x12mm for the mount of the AIO FC
4x M2x16mm to mount the Caddx Vista (I have cut longer screws)
8x M2 nuts secured with loctite medium (blue)
antenna tubes diameter of 3mm
Sticky pad stripes 2x 50mmx9mm (3M or Ummagrip)
The rest of my setup - for inspiration:
4x iFlight XING 1404 4,600kv
1x Caddx Vista
1x HIFIONRC F7 AIO 25A Toothpick FC/ESC Board
1x Frsky RXSR receiver
4x HQ Props HeadsUp Tinny 3x1.8x3 (awful colors, but provide good, linear control)
Battery CNHL 4s 450mAh 70C
I hope I covered everything.
Let me know if you need any small changes (e.g. hole pattern motors) or cut / printed parts (Europe).
