I was recently asked to wind a few toroids with upwards of 100 windings and began looking into more efficient ways to wind them. So I came up with this low-cost solution. This is specifically made to wrap rings that have an OD of 1.592" an ID of 1.180" and a height of 0.5". The bobbin is removable so that you can wrap it easily and pop it back into the holder all while being able to spin freely.
All parts are able to be 3d printed except for the motor and hardware.
Rather than use a motor you could also use a hand crank. (will upload 3d printable model at a later date)
Please feel free to comment and mention improvements! I'm sure the gear ratio or style could be greatly improved. I think for my next version I'll use a worm drive.
This is held together by 0-80 screws and nuts (5x of each). You will also need a small spring pin to connect the gate to the large ring as well as the two ends of the bobbin together. lastly, you will need 4-40 screws and nuts (2x of each) to hold the motor in place.
I am using a 28BYJ-48 stepper motor. This is very slow and is used in my demonstration setup only.
