Opened in 1946, the Top of the Ocean was a waterfront restaurant and dance hall in Tacoma, Washington. Built to resemble an ocean liner, and known locally as 'The Top,' it was a well-known regional destination for formal parties, club meetings, and other gatherings and celebrations. From 1948 to the early 1950s it was owned and operated by the Tacoma Athletic Commission. The Top of the Ocean continued to operate until it was destroyed by arson on April 3, 1977. Later a walking path was constructed on the remaining pilings, and in 2007 a bronze sculpture was placed at the site. Over the years The Top was remodeled several times. This model depicts the restaurant largely as-built. In later years the port side of the first floor was fully enclosed, and the 3rd floor windows enlarged. Also additional pilings were added to encircle the restaurant. 3d model and textures by Jon M.
