Magnetic Carabiners are the latest technology in locking carabiners, some people find them to be aesthetically displeasing in safety reassurance. The carabiner created is to help people have more visual comfort than other magnetic locking carabiners offered. This device was designed for climbing but could be made for Industry. If this carabiner were to be used for industry, the material would change from 7075-t6 Aluminum to being made of A36 Steel, which would cost less, have a larger elastic modulus and have less electrical conductivity giving it a larger factor of safety.

Some of the latest carabiners in climbing are using magnets to hold the gate closed. Which makes the design of the carabiner simple and easy to work with. The down side of using magnets is that the design doesn’t have the same visual reassurance that twist-lock and screw-gate carabiners offer. The Redesign created for the magnetic locking carabiner takes the simple magnetic two-step carabiner and turns it into a three-step carabiner. The design is not as simple as it once was, but adding the slide lock to the carabiner gate gives it a larger load rating for the gate when closed, therefore giving the carabiner a larger factor of safety. The slide lock in the new design covers the catch and has magnetic push latches that slide into a cut out on the gate catching and locking the slide in place. This gives the visual reassurance that climbers look for when checking off their gear before a climb.
