Designed by Kostas Prapoglou, The Shrine Shelter is a project for the Guggenheim Museum Shelter competition 2009. The Shrine Shelter design entwines the benefits of the temperate climate of the southern Mediterranean with the breathtaking vistas of the bay. Inspired by the memories of the ancient Greek temple, the shelter materials include local timber and terracotta. The canopy is covered with sailing fabric which helps the circulation of the sea breeze amongst its columns. The two levels can be used as study or sleeping areas. The Shrine Shelter is situated on the peninsula Northeast on the island of Crete, Greece and overlooking the bay of Elouda and the island fortress of Spinalonga. #architecture #circular_temple #columns #contemporary #design #Guggenheim #modern #project #shelter #shrine
