Based on a single building with associated props, The Community Shops can be adapted to create anything from a single store to a complete shopping center, and features eighteen store presets including a general store, a lawyers office, tanning salon, pubs and a whole lot more.

Although only intended to be seen from the outside, windows and doors open and close independently, as do curtains, and there are individual presets to turn the lights on and off in each room, as well as for the store sign. Two doors at the back allow access for deliveries and escape in the event of fire, and a door at the side of the building leads to upstairs residential accommodation. Doors are wide enough for wheelchair access, and the security features necessary for most modern business to gain insurance are included too. There's a security shutter with a morph to open and close, a security camera rigged to rotate and to point up or down, a burglar alarm with presets to turn the blue light on and off, and window bars for the businesses that need them.

Posters in the shop window are mostly what's used to give the impression of something in store, but something more substantial can be used, either in the form of the included fabric rolls and stand or the shelving, which allows anything at all to be displayed in the shop window as long as it fits. There are presets to turn the shelving lights on and off, and the two central shelves can be moved up or down or hidden to accommodate items of differing sizes.

There's also an awning for the shop with a morph to retract it, a hanging sign which is rigged to swing back and forth with light presets to illuminate it, an illuminated side sign and an optional light fitting to illuminate the store sign as an alternative to lighting it from within. There are material zones for pretty much everything, as well as a variety of material presets. Presets for stucco and brick make varying the appearance of the shops simple, and the color of the stucco can be changed via the diffuse channel under the 'surfaces' tab. The yard at the back comes in two different sizes, creating either a lane between two shops or a larger yard with more room for vehicles. Single and double yard gates come in two variants, and there's a narrow base with a dropped kerb at the rear to stand the shop on.

Out in the street, there's a large wall to hide unwanted horizons around the building and six more base props which can be used to fill in the foreground, depending on the view. An advertising hoarding and a bus stop are included to help quickly create background interest. In addition, there's a free-standing advertising sign with a fold morph for those 'setting up shop' or 'blown over in the wind' renders, a bench, table, chair, bollard, wastebin, drain, manhole and pub cellar doors to set in the ground.

The Community Shops offers more than a place for characters to indulge in retail therapy. It's somewhere where they can live and work, too. It's an easy product to use despite this versatility, and the inclusion of a brief PDF makes it even easier. This is an IRAY only product.
