So. This whole posting has a bit of a story. Years ago I followed an English chappy named Stuart Brown way way back. He did scans and re-creations of older classic cars as well as digitizing a Bugatti Type 35 if memory serves. I was blown away by his work with surfacing and body buck design. Stuart became quite a success. An award winner and pioneer in cars of the past re-created and is the proprietor of 3Dengineers.co.uk

A few years later on I saw a Youtube video of a guy out of Minnesota (Alexandria to be exact) named Chris Runge. Chris was building a Porsche racer post war based on the Glockler Porsche campaigned in the early 50's. A lot of this post is based on Chris as an inspiration for me (I was jealous and wanted to be like him...even though I am older) and lo and behold he became a very big success and is recognized as an extraordinary bespoke builder via his company, Runge Cars. Heck, I even took a 3 day body shaping course. Hard work but also learnable. I like hitting things with a hammer.

So let's get to me. A week ago during the Christmas Break I wanted to do my own bespoke design of a car using the influences and previous cars I had modelled and cribbing some of their design cues. What I forgot was that I already did this. Bear with me. I started the design last Friday (December 30) and it was not going very well. Now a few days ago for some reason I was looking for something unrelated completely on my cellphone and found some old designs I had stored on Google Drive. They were Porsche inspired but not from any blueprint per se. I immediately liked what I did from a few years back vs a few days back but my CAD models were long gone. I had labeled the screen dumps "are you kidding me". I have no idea why. They are part of this post in the gallery as well. But I wanted a CAD model and set about to re-create what I had on my cell. What I came up with I generally like although I did not completely get the model like I had previously. I've always loved the very late 1950's Porsche 718. Elegant. Small. Fast. Just gorgeous. the original design was based on that but somehow this car ....came out...a bit Italian as well. See if you can figure out where I unconciously changed things. The body is a bit bigger (86 inch wheelbase) and about 153 inches long. If you want to build or copy this model, scale it back 5% to get a bit more of where I was going. But...it ain't that bad.
